USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

  • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
  • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).

What's in this Mix?

(8” – 72” tall) Our Fall Maximum Wildflower Seed Mix continues to be a favorite for any gardener. Every year, The Seed Man puts together a one-of-a-kind wildflower seed mix designed specifically for fall planting. This year, our Fall Max Mix contains over 60 different varieties - just about double the variety in most of our seed mixes! This mixture includes wildflower species that will thrive in all regions of the US. In colder northern climates: plant wildflower seeds in fall after a few killing frosts, but before a hard freeze – wildflowers will lay dormant over the winter for a jump start on growth in spring. In warmer climates: annuals will bloom in fall about 6-8 weeks after planting, while perennials grow their foliage and establish root systems and bloom in the second season. See our Fall Planting Instructions provide step-by-step planting instructions for fall. As always, this mixture contains 100% pure, non-GMO wildflower seed, and it is guaranteed to brighten up your garden this coming spring and for many years to come. Quantities are limited, so order now!
